"A shy otter rests for a while BY the rough waters of a river in the Spanish Pyrenees. While collaborating in an census of otters I camped in this hidden site for five days. You must stand still for long hours. That let me prepare the canvas patiently. Then while I was picking my brushes…the reward to such long hours. The gorgeous shapes os this beautiful mammal were determining in the final composition in my study. An “s” crosses the canvas diagonally and it is repeated both in the rocks and the animal to give a final rhythm to the painting. The otter, always alert was painted off the center to create a certain tension and make the observer travel across the canvas. Different ochers and soil colours were needed to obtain the light onto the water coming among the willows that magic evening."
